The CyArk 500 Challenge is the 3D scanning and digital preservation
of 500 world heritage sites within a period of 5 years. On October 21st
at the Tower of London, CyArk formally launched the CyArk 500
Challenge.
Heritage sites are a significant part of our collective memory and we are losing them at an alarming rate.
3D laser scanning and other advanced technologies are available today
and allow us to preserve and experience these incredible places in a
way previously impossible. Now is the time for us to take advantage of
these technologies and the change they enable to save these priceless
treasures.
CyArk has already completed 40 projects toward its goal of 500. These
sites, called the Exemplar Projects, include Pompeii, Babylon, Mt.
Rushmore, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Titanic, the Sydney Opera House
and, most recently, the Tower of London.
Future projects comprising the CyArk 500 will be evaluated for
inclusion by the CyArk Advisory Council, chaired by Gustavo Araoz,
president of the International Council of Monuments and Sites.
