The mosaic was found at Amasya’s Yavru Village, the Culture and Tourism Ministry announced. It was subsequently analyzed by Hittite University Black Sea Archeology research manager Esra Keskin, and the mosaic is believed to belong to the early Christian era.
The mosaic uncovered includes an apple motif and is set to go on display at the Amasya Museum. The 2,000-year-old Roman mosaics unearthed during recent excavations in the northern province of Amasya will turn a new page in the history of the area, according to officials. The mosaics have similar features to the famous Zeugma mosaics from Gaziantep.
Speaking to Anadolu agency, Amasya Governor Abdil Celil Öz said the unearthed Roman mosaics would open a new page for Amasya and a new era in the history of archeology.
